When we went into lockdown, I could not justify wearing any of my most beloved shoes. It seemed wrong, like opening your finest bottle of Champagne when you are home alone. As the creator of the Instagram account @thecloglife, I have come to see clogs as not just comfortable and practical but celebratory. Clogs signify a life where one does as one wants and submits to the will of nobody else—corporate uniform and male gaze be damned! Leave it to the other shoes to double as torture devices and go in and out of fashion. Clogs are the heavy hitters of my heart (and feet).
Last up: Jenner attending Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s wedding to Blink 182’s Travis Barker this summer. “I look back at even the first little girl that we saw and how uncomfortable she was, ” Jenner says, looking at the final image, “and even the girl in 2014 at the Met Gala… And then coming into this girl who’s like a lot more, ‘I’ve found myself as a woman, I’ve found myself… It’s cool to see.” Can you hear what I hear? Jenner has fond memories of the beloved designer, saying, “Most of our conversations were over FaceTime. But you never felt like there was a disconnect. He always was putting all of his energy into it. So you always felt really comfortable and safe in his arms, in a way.” Another great Gala tidbit: Jenner’s 2019 outfit, which was designed by Versace and coordinated with Kylie’s own Versace number, featured pieces made the night before. “My stylist at the time went in and just drew the feathers out and said, “Versace can you do this overnight?” Jenner says, sharing her amazement at the skill and speed of the Versace team.
